For patients suffering from congenital diseases like Thalassemia and for those in trauma, surgeries and so on, blood is a lifesaver and thus it can and has saved lives. Blood collection and distribution facilities are concentrated in urban areas. Rural persons find it difficult to get blood even if they are willing to meet the costs due to logistic problems. Several statutory tests are to be conducted before blood is to be accepted. These are expensive due to high cost of consumables. Blood banks, therefore, cannot afford to give blood free to deserving poor section of society. Rotary International is an international voluntary organization with over a century’s standing. Rotary Mysore is a part of it with nearly seven decades of service to the city of Mysore and its surroundings.
